Rita has worked to develop her artistic talents on her own over the years and made a business of doing other animal lovers pet portraits from their photos. She has been listed in the Who’s Who World Wide Registry, Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who
in Executives and Professionals books over the years she has won many National awards for her art as well as regional and local awards. Her art has been published in magazines, such as” Over the Back Fence”, “Perfect Horse” and the “Buckeye Artisan” and is hanging in such noted homes and businesses as Doris Day’s California, Mount Carmel home, Big Brown’s portrait at Three Chimney Farms in Lexington, Kentucky, and numerous other homes and businesses around the world. Rita was a board member for the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley for several years and sponsored a charitable fund raiser for them called “Art for the Animals” for thirteen years with all proceeds donated to help homeless animals in her area. Rita has done school programs about spaying and neutering pets, volunteering at the shelter to help homeless animals and proper care to keep them healthy and safe in bad weather. She continues to support the local shelter to this day. She and her husband care for three horses, five dogs
and five cats at present with countless dogs and cats through the course of their fifty plus, year marriage.
Rita has helped raise funds for several wonderful causes through the years using her art talent as well as her love for horses. She has been sponsored on trail rides over the years for such causes as the American Cancer Society, Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospitals, and
The Children’s Miracle Network. Rita has been a long time member of the Washington County Chapter of the Ohio
Horseman’s Council Inc. and was creator and chairperson for their annual Spaghetti Dinner / Auction for six years, Horse Apple Bingo / Flea Market, Corn Hole contest, scavenger hunt fundraiser and more. The proceeds from these fundraisers have been used in past years to help other horsemen in the group who have suffered major losses in life through
accidents and/or injuries, the group also donated back to local businesses after they suffered losses from flooding some years back, as well as helping to improve and maintain riding trails and campgrounds around the area for all horsemen to use and enjoy.
Rita was a member of the Marietta Area Arts and Crafts League serving as president and vise-president before the League was dissolved. She was a member of the Wood County Riding Club before it was dissolved. She has been a member of the Steubenville Art Association for many years receiving several awards over the years at their annual art shows. She has had her own art and frame business since 1980, before that she worked eight years as framing manager for local artist/framer Marj Teague. She worked as a veterinary assistant for Dr. Lyle Schultheis from 1971 through 1972.
